Health benefits of Amla - Indian Gooseberry

Being bitter and hard in taste, it's nutritional value never decreases for us. Amla is widely used in various Ayurvedic medicines to cure different types of health problems as well as it is used in manufacturing shampoos and other hair care products. One may even call it an all-rounder cure for various diseases. It is also considered beneficial in curing physical weakness and making us healthier.


  • The main constituents of Amla includes an adequate amount of Vitamin C. It has 75 to 80% in it. Various important minerals, such as Iron(, Calcium and Phosphorous are also present in Amla. Other constituents of Indian Gooseberry includes proteins, carbohydrates, fibre, phyllemblin, gallic acid, tannins and pectin etc.

  • Amla is considered as a rich source of 'Ascorbic acid' or Vitamin C.


  • Taking a spoon full of dry powered Amla with a small amount of curd relieves and cures the problem of Hemorrhoides or Bawaseer.

  • Taking a spoon full of Amla powder with water before going to bed in the night, benefits in curing Acidity.

  • Mix a small amount of honey with a spoon full of Amla juice. Licking this solution will solve the Bile issues in the body.

  • It helps in controlling High Blood Pressure in patients. Hence, it is advisable to eat 'Amla Murabba' daily, applying silver foil over it.

  • Make powder from the seeds of Blueberry and Gooseberry (Amla). Taking this powder daily with pure cow milk, right after waking up, cures major problems like Diabetes.

  • It relieves in Cough and Cold, by taking half spoon of Amla juce with 2-3 grams of powdered Peepal dissolved in 2-3 spoon full of Honey.

  • It cures the problem of bleeding gums, when applied powdered Amla with a little amount of salt and Mustard oil (Sarso oil) over gums.

  • Consuming Amla Murabba on empty stomach, every morning and evening is advisable for old people for longer and healthy life.

  • Three grams of powdered Amla dissolved with 6 grams of honey is considered as a good tonic, and helps in curing Leucorrhoea in females when taken regularly for a month or more.

  • Paste for making hairs more black, thick and stronger – Take equal quantities of Gooseberry and Mango seeds. Crush them together in order to make a thick paste from it. (It helps a lot in curing before-age white hairs as well as providing nutrition to the hairs, hence making them thicker, stronger, soft and shiny).

  • During pregnancy, it is advisable to eat Amla preserve (Murabba) when feeling like vomiting.

  • Amla is one of the three main constituents required for making 'Triphala Choorna', that is considered good for eyes, skin, heart, digestive system, increasing RBC (Red blood cell) count and much more.

  • Vitamin C is required for the synthesis of inter cellular cement 'Collagen' in Human beings. Collagen works as a strong bond to keep body cells together.
